November 10, 2008. Consulate General Leipzig staffers Birgit Kaemmer and Mechthild Hoelker joined Leipzig Consul General Katherine Brucker and Specialist for Political and Economic Affairs Andreas Fuerst for a big event organized by the Wolfen school club and the Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium Bitterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt. In the presence of local dignitaries including the mayor and several members of the state parliament, Katherine Brucker discussed a wide range of issues including the elections with about 100 attending students. The Consul General also pointed out that president-elect Obama does not take office until January 20, 2009, and that his top priority now is selecting his new team. Consulate staff added information on education opportunities and on Internet resources available for background about U.S, economy, geography, history, and other topics.
