Consul for Public Affairs Mark Wenig spoke before an audience of 70 in the western Saxon city of Zwickau on the evening of February 8, at an event organized by the Junge Union of the CDU. Wenig, who was accompanied by Andreas Fuerst, Assistant for Political and Economic Affairs, reviewed the U.S. National Security Strategy and then took questions from the audience. Among those in attendance were Dr. Michael Luther, MdB and head of the Saxon CDU group in the Bundestag, several members of the city council and the CDU candidate for the mayoral elections to be held this June, Frank Seidel. Most of the questions focused on Afghanistan and the likely direction of U.S. foreign policy after the November presidential elections. Wenig also gave an on-camera interview beforehand to TV Zwickau whose reporter also stayed to cover the speech and Q&A.
