 The Long Campaign: Elections 2008
January 15-16, 2008.
Consulate General Leipzig hosted a total of 74 teachers of English from all parts of Saxony at in-service training seminars in Chemnitz and Rodewisch. Dr. Andrew Denison and Fulbright Professor Richard Reiman introduced the teachers to the full spectrum of election-related issues by explaining not only the election system and primaries, but also foreign and security policy implications and the election as part of the U.S. democratic process. The two political speakers were followed by Paula Ross, an American artist based in Berlin, who covered visual culture and ethnicity. In addition, Leipzig staffer Mechthild Hoelker (Information Resource Center) talked about new resources of the Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP) at the State Department, including the new "America.gov" website and Internet sources related to the U.S. presidential elections.
