Mark Wenig lecturing at Freiberg Berg- akademie |
June 4, 2008. Consul for Public Affairs Mark Wenig continued his engagement for the annual summer semester class on "Cultural Studies of the USA" launched by Prof. Dr. Michael Hinner, who holds the chair in Business English at the Technical University (TU) Bergakademie Freiberg. It was Wenig's 3rd lecture at the university in as many years, and this years' presentation focused on the 2008 presidential election campaign, which he reviewed for a group of 40 business students, high school students and their English teachers from two local gymnasiums. The session continued with a lively Q&A session. In addition, the Information Resource Center (IRC) director briefly outlined resources for information about the U.S. elections and presented brochures about U.S. politics and society, as well as the Werner Peters book, "Rätsel Amerika" (The American Riddle) to the institute's library. Following the presentation, Wenig met with Dorothy Maddison, a visiting professor of voice from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, and several American and German colleagues, who had just conducted a musical program at TU, and who comes to Germany each year on similar programs in the Leipzig consular district.
