June 12-14, 2009. Consulate General Leipzig broke new ground with its first active participation in the Saxony-Anhalt Day, an annual event celebrating institutions and products from the state, which attracted 200,000 visitors to the town of Thale in the Harz region. For three days, Consulate General Leipzig staffed a strategically well-placed booth in the ‘International village' directly across from Saxony-Anhalt's "Open to the World stage" where Consul for Public Affairs Jim Seward also presented the 2009 World Book Encyclopedia to the Thale library. On opening day, Consul General Katherine Brucker and the Ambassador of Vietnam were welcomed as guests of honor by Saxony-Anhalt Minister President Wolfgang Böhmer and the lord mayor of Thale. At the reception hosted by the Minister President following the opening ceremonies, Consul General Brucker signed Thale's Golden Book. Prominent visitors to the booth included Jens Bullerjahn, deputy Minister President, Dieter Steinecke, President of the Saxony-Anhalt State Parliament, Dr. Eberhard Brecht, Mayor of Quedlinburg, Guido Kosmehl, member of the State Parliament and representatives from local U.S. investor Mertik Maxitrol.
