June 4, 2008. Consul General Mark Scheland reflected on his soon-toend three-year term and the upcoming U.S. elections during his first farewell interview with local media in the Leipzig Consulate General district. This major interview with Freie Presse Chemnitz appeared on June 5 under the headline: “Adrenalin Boost for (new) President”. In it, Mark Scheland made clear that despite the grueling election campaign, the new U.S. president will have his cabinet in place and be ready to tackle ambitious goals once assuming office. Summing up his three-year term as Leipzig Consul General, Scheland again stressed the importance and impact of seeking and maintaining direct contact with diverse segments of the population, including students, politicians, business representatives and members of academe, all of whom have received him with open and curious minds and a great interest in America.
