April 12, 2007
Consul Michael Rousek attended the ceremony for the celebration of the end of WWII 62 years ago conducted by Berward Küper, mayor of Naumburg. In his speech Rousek pointed out the change in the relationship between former enemies who in the process of ending the war became friends. He also reminded the audience of American support in Germany’s reunification. Through this involvement the USA assisted in securing democracy for a second time in this region after 1945. Afterwards, author Jürgen Möller introduced his book „Der Vorstoß des V. US Corps zur Saale Unstrut und die Besetzung von Naumburg im April 1945“. The ceremony was attended by 160 people from regional businesses, political figures and the general public. Consul Rousek took that opportunity to present Jürgen Möller with a plaque from the Veterans of the 69th U.S.-Infantry Division, honoring Möller’s dedication to the accurate portrayal of the American liberation of East Germany, specifically Naumburg.
