May 16, 2009. Consul General Katherine Brucker visited Pirna in Saxony, a city with some 39,300 inhabitants, to participate in the 7th annual "Marketplace of Cultures," a program designed to combat right-wing extremism and promote tolerance, which attracted more than 8,500 visitors. The Consulate U.S. information booth was one of more than 60 stands which showcased the wealth of peoples and cultures. Lord Mayor Markus Ulbig invited representatives from Poland, the Czech Republic, France, the U.S. and other countries. In her brief on-stage address, Consul General Katherine Brucker recalled her own diverse experiences in foreign lands and urged people to celebrate and enjoy cultural differences.
