U.S. author and Pulitzer Prize winner J.R. Moehringer teamed up with well-known German actor Dominic Raacke to present the bestseller “Tender Bar” to an audience in Leipzig. The event, which was co-sponsored by the House of Books (Haus des Buches), the Fischer Publishing Firm, and Leipzig Consulate General, recreated for the audience the special atmosphere of Moehringer’s “upbringing” in Manhasset, New York, and the lessons he learned for life at the “tender bar.” The reading provided a glimpse of – as Moehringer put it – an underrepresented slice of life in American literature: the efforts and ingenious ways in which single mothers raise their children.
