Can There Be Peace In The Middle East?

Student interviews
Student interviews
February 4, 2009. Dr. Markus Kaim (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, SWP), addressed the Middle East conflict in Leipzig with 10 political science majors from Chemnitz University, who will represent the state of Israel at the 2009 National Model United Nations project in New York City. In the analytical discussion, Kaim warned against overestimating the influence of external forces in bringing about a political solution and underscored the importance of some kind of political will to bring peace to the region. The students received valuable background information on the driving forces behind the conflict, U.S. policy objectives and Israeli concerns, all of which were supplemented with polls. The special format of the discussion as well as the students' engagement in the highly prestigious Model United Nations project attracted media interest.
