June 7, 2009. June 7 turned out to be a special day for a group of ambitious journalism students who - with the help of a Consulate General Leipzig grant - travelled to the U.S. during the election campaign in the fall of 2008. Under the leadership of Department Chair Professor Rüdiger Steinmetz and Mephisto Program Director Dr. Christoph Peters, the 11 students researched, produced and aired a whole series of U.S. election programs which were recognized by the RIAS Berlin Commission for "their unique style targeted at a primarily young audience, with a fast pace, wit and a highly condensed information content. With this (program), the station is helping to break down prejudices and paves the way for an unhampered discourse about what makes America special." The Leipzig Consulate General had also engaged the group for Leipzig's election party to present a short film on their impressions from their media field study.
