April 19, 2007
Leipzig Consul General Mark Scheland, Consulfor Public Affairs Mark Wenig and Information Specialist Rita Wallace represented the Consulate in Magdeburg as the German-American Dialog Center introduced this year’s three scholarship recipients to the local press. The three high school students, who had been selected from a pool of 60 applicants, said they wanted to examine first-hand whether stereotypes about the U.S. are indeed true, and promised to act as ambassadors for Saxony-Anhalt in the U.S. Dr. Uwe Kuester (MdB) lauded Leipzig Consulate General’s long-time support for the high-school exchange and also proudly announced the first scholarship from the Schwan Food Company, an American firm near Magdeburg. Following the event, Consul General Scheland visited the MDR state broadcasting headquarters (LFH) for a backgrounder with 10 high-level journalists on subjects ranging from local U.S.-German business relations to the situation in Iraq.
