May 12, 2009. Consul for Public Affairs James Seward along with an Information Resource Center (IRC) staffer travelled to Lichtenstein, Saxony, for a whole day of programs under the title "President Barack Obama - Rolling Up his Sleeves". The Consul discussed presidential initiatives countering the financial downturn and other domestic and international issues, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in the president's plans. In two "Meet US" sessions, 70 11th grade students raised questions ranging from social policy issues to racism, immigration, and consumer society. The afternoon teacher/public audience focused on several controversial issues such as Guantanamo, Iraq and Afghanistan and the death penalty.
