May 2, 2008. Four American women from the village of Leipsic, Ohio, visited the Leipzig Neues Rathaus with Consul General Mark Scheland to bring a small gift from their town government. City protocol chief Dr. Magdalena Grams had acceded to the Consul General’s request that the ladies be met briefly by a Leipzig official. The “human interest” appeal of this visit snowballed, with Dr. Grams pulling the First Deputy Mayor and City Historian in, while the Consulate invited local media.
