Farewell to American Studies Professor

Prof. Hartmut Keil, University of Leipzig

Professor Hartmut Keil

July 19, 2007
Leipzig Consul General Mark Scheland was one of seven speakers at a formal sendoff and reception for newly retired American Studies Professor Hartmut Keil. Scheland, who addressed the theme of interdisciplinary studies in the context of future careers for the approximately 80 students present, strongly supported American Studies as an important and worthwhile field of study, and encouraged students to consider a wide variety of fields when looking for their first job. Keil, who has been on the staff of Leipzig University for almost 15 years, was also the main force behind the establishment of the Frank Friedel Library, made of up mainly American published books, and which has been continually supported by the Leipzig Consulate.
