The Consulate supported the summer Karl May pageant at Bishofswerda after their costumes were destroyed in a fire last year, which was apparently due to arson. Consul for Public Affairs Dr. Elizabeth Bonkowsky attended a performance adapted from “The Treasure in the Silver Sea” with Winnetou, Old Shatterhand, a giant grizzly bear, numerous special effects and a cast of some 50 “extras” made up of local school children. The cast and towns people undertook considerable research in creating replacement costumes in order to make them as authentic as possible.
