May 10, 2007 Leipzig Consulate General staged its all-day media workshop for journalism trainees from Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR), the public broadcaster and ARD affiliate in the Leipzig district. The 12 participants received an introduction to Information Resource Center (IRC) resources and services available at the consulate as well as through Internet outreach, as explained and presented by Information Resource Officer Sheila Weir, U.S. Consulate General Frankfurt/M., in the framework of a DVC. They engaged in a dialogue with Consul General Mark Scheland and Public Affairs Officer Mark Wenig, learned about the activities of the U.S. Commercial Service and were encouraged to participate in exchange programs for journalists. Counsellor Donald Shemanski, U.S. Embassy Berlin Global Affairs chief, traveled to Leipzig to explain and field questions on how the U.S. perceives and plans to deal with climate change.
