Leipzig Nurtures Jewish-American Studies At Halle University
June 25, 2008. A representative of the Saxony-Anhalt Ministry of Culture, dignitaries from Halle University, the local Rabbi, and Consul for Public Affairs Mark Wenig, gathered with some 40 more guests to pay tribute to Information Resource Center’s new cooperation with the university’s Jewish Studies Institute. The celebration centered on the official donation of 40 significant recent books discussing Jewish American issues – a highly anticipated gift filling a major gap in the Institute’s book collection. By including also academic libraries now, the A@YL initiative is exploring new territory with this most recent partnership. The Consulate also arranged for Benjamin L. Alpers, Fulbright professor at Leipzig University, to honor the event with his Thoughts on the Jewishness of Leo Strauss speech. Jewish Studies Institute, Halle
