Leipzig's 15th Anniversary Celebrated with U.S. Composition and Verse

In commemoration of the Consulate’s reopening on June 30th 1992, Consul General Mark Scheland and his wife Elizabeth hosted “Eine kleine Hausmusik” on July 13th. Deputy Chief of Mission John Koenig, U.S.Embassy Berlin, Mrs. Koenig, their two sons and forty guests from the Leipzig area listened to three talented young sopranos currently studying at the local “Hochschule für Musik und Theater.” They were accompanied on the piano by Professor Phillip Moll, also from the local Hochschule. The all-American program focused on musical interpretations of poems by Emily Dickinson, e.e. cummings, James Purdy, Gwendolyn Brooks, and others by famous composers such as Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein.
