8 Great Reasons To Visit Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt And Thuringia

Luther Decade (anniversaries until 2017)

• Eisenach, Erfurt, Schmalkalden, Torgau and the two Luther cities Eisleben and Wittenberg are inviting everybody to visit their cities and regions for the upcoming 500th anniversary of the Reformation (2017), when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses on the door of the Schlosskirche in Wittenberg.
• Different tourist routes will take you to Wartburg Castle and to Luther’s house in Eisenach, to the Augustinian Monastery in Erfurt, to the houses in Eisleben where Luther was born and where he died, to Hartenfels Palace in Torgau and to the Luther House and Melanchthon’s house in Wittenberg.
• The Luther Decade kicked off in September 2008 marking 500 years since Luther’s arrival Wittenberg. Several more anniversaries follow, marking the beginning of the Reformation, Luther’s travel to Rome (2010) and his 95 theses (2017).
