October 23, 2008. Leipzig’s Grassi Ethnographical Museum marked the publication of a catalog of the museum’s collection of Tibetan and classical Chinese Art. The extensive collection was assembled in the late 19th Century by Hermann Freiherr Speck von Sternburg, one of Germany’s most prominent diplomats of the epoch, Ambassador to the United States and friend of Theodore Roosevelt. Consul for Public Affairs James Seward delivered remarks to an audience of some 200 persons, thanking Wolf-Dietrich Speck von Sternburg for donating the collection of his illustrious great-grandparent. The Grassi museum will open a major exhibition of American art and photography in November, supported by the Consulate General.
