January 16, 2009. Leipzig Consul General Katherine Brucker addressed about 80 11th and 12th graders from the Georgius-Agricola Gymnasium at a Meet US event at the Glauchau public library, a participant of the America@your library (A@YL) program. Topics included tasks and duties of the Consulate, Katherine Bruckers' diplomatic career and the inauguration of president-elect Obama. Consulate staffer Birgit Kaemmer, in turn, presented a lecture on educational opportunities in the U.S. Glauchau's Lord Mayor Dresler underscored the good working relations between the Consulate and the Public Library, the Glauchau schools and the sister city association Friends of Lynchburg e.V. At a reception following the program, Bundestag deputy Marco Wanderwitz and Ines Springer, city councilor and Rotary Club President reiterated their enthusiasm for the successful local German-American cooperation. While Consul General Katherine Brucker handed over a collection of the best 40 children books of 2008 to the librarian, the Information Resource Center distributed the Barack Obama booklets of the State Department's Bureau of International Information programs and CD-ROMs "About the USA".
