Gotha And Gastonia Celebrating 15-Year Partnership

 Gastonia Day in Gotha
 Gastonia Day in Gotha
May 15, 2008. Consul General Mark Scheland spoke at a welcoming event for a six-member sister city delegation from Gastonia (NC) in Gotha, Thuringia. Gotha Lord Mayor Knut Kreuch and Gastonia Mayor Jennie Stultz also addressed the gathering, which included 20 Gotha officials and sister city activists. The Consul General emphasized the positive and productive development of the U.S. presence in Thuringia in the economic sphere as well as in building people-to-people relationships. Lord Mayor Kreuch noted that over 500 students from the two sister cities had spent time at a partner school across the Atlantic in the past 15 years. The next day, Consul for Public Affairs Mark Wenig and Consulate staff participated in the press conference with the two mayors, delivered remarks and invited guests and the general public to stop by the Consulate information booth, which was featured exhibit at the "Gastonia Days". A steady stream of Gotha citizens including some teachers visited the Information Resource Center (IRC)-operated information booth and showed interest in a wide variety of U.S.-related issues.
