July 22-30, 2009. U.S. interns Ivana Djak, Colby Mangels, and Melissa Miller, along with German intern Maria Zywietz, discussed the topic of American and German stereotypes with two groups of English-language students age 14-18 in Leipzig. The students were on a field trip to Leipzig from their summer school (Ferienakademie) program in Grimma, a small town near Leipzig. On August 5, Consul for Public Affairs James Seward addressed 17 students of the program about President Obama and his policies. 54 students from all parts of Saxony were eager to engage the Consul for Public Affairs and the consulate representatives on a wide spectrum of topics, including gun control, food customs, diversity, and the impact of changes in presidential administrations on U.S. diplomatic missions.
