August 8, 2007 Consul for Public Affairs Mark Wenig and Consulate General staffer Zoe Kusmierz joined the closing ceremony of the 11th Eurocamp for Kids in Güntersberge. The 10-day camp brought together 280 children aged 11 to 17 from 21 countries to promote tolerance and cultural understanding through fun and friendship. They spent time together in the Harz region, visited Quedlinburg, met with locals, and discussed the role of children and youth with politicians during a visit to the state parliament of Magdeburg. During the closing ceremony, diplomatic representatives from various embassies met with the camp participants to learn more about the program and show their support for this multicultural project. Consul Wenig talked to the nine American youngsters and their two chaperones from Cincinnati, Ohio, whose schools represented the U.S. for the fourth straight year.
