Overwhelming Public And Media Interest In Historic U.S. Election
|
| Consulate General Leipzig’s election party |
November 4-5, 2008. Some 350 invited guests and numerous media representatives flocked to Leipzig Consulate General’s election party at the headquarters of ARD affiliate Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) on November 4 to follow the results, as they came in, of an historic election. The event featured a presentation for High School kids on the election and a high-level panel discussion on expectations from a new administration on both sides of the Atlantic. Throughout Eastern Germany interest in the election among media representatives and the general public was unparalleled with record requests to Consulate General Leipzig to explain the U.S. election process and its manifold implications. In order to satisfy this interest, Consulate Leipzig drew on all available resources in-house, arranged interviews with U.S. experts and guests in the run-up to and during the election and thus generated a wealth of coverage.
