 Elections 2008. The Long Campaign
September 23, October 1, and October 8, 2008. Consulate General Leipzig hosted a total of 130 teachers of English and 210 high school students from all over Saxony and Thuringia at in-service training seminars in Bad Berka (Sept. 23), Löbau (October 1) and Chemnitz (October 8). US-speaker Prof. Paul Rundquist introduced teachers and students to the full spectrum of election-related issues by explaining not only the election system and primaries, but also foreign and security policy implications and the election as part of the U.S. democratic process. In addition, Leipzig consulate staffer Mechthild Hoelker talked in Bad Berka about new resources of Department of State’s Bureau of International Information Programs, including the new “America.gov” website and Internet sources related to the U.S. presidential elections.
