July 4, 2008. Headlined “U.S. (has a) strong interest in the East,” Leipziger Volkszeitung on July 4 carried an interview with Ambassador William R. Timken Jr. which was recorded at the Leipzig Consulate General’s Independence Day festivities. Highlighting the opening of the new U.S. Embassy as the culmination of a long evolution in German-American relations, Ambassador Timken underscored the continuing importance of the bilateral relationship and the fact that the U.S. is the largest foreign investor in the East.
