Consul Jim Seward presents book to Ina Böhning, Kunsthaus Raskolnikow e.V./ Galerie |
September 12, 2008. Leipzig Consul for Public Affairs James Seward cemented the Consulates’ ties with Dresden’s avantgarde artistic community at a welcoming reception for American artist Melissa Vogley-Woods at the Raskolnikow Art Gallery. Vogley-Woods has begun a three-month residency at the Gallery, under the auspices of the Dresden/Columbus, Ohio sister-cities program, with the support of the Columbus Greater Arts Council and the Ministry of Science and Culture of the State of Saxony. For more than 10 years the partnership between Dresden and Columbus has maintained a lively exchange of German and American artists. In his remarks to the gathering of artists and patrons, Consul Seward praised the exchange program as a vital component in Saxony’s growing ties with the United States. Melissa Vogley-Woods’s unique art combines the American folk craft of patchwork quilting with thoughtprovoking artistic expression.
