May 16, 2009. Consul for Political and Economic Affairs Edith Backman greeted about 70 guests at the opening of the exhibition "Visions of Native Americans: The Photographs of Edward S. Curtis", a State Department poster show which will be on display at the International Karl May Heritage Center in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Saxony, until October 2009. The show is a photographic record of Native Americans during the early part of the 20th century. Consul Backman made an official presentation of a book of photos of the American West to the director of the Karl May Center. The vernissage was part of the 12th Karl May festival and over the course of the festival an extraordinary high number of visitors flocked in to learn about North American Indians.
