Participants of the conference in front of the Technical University Chemnitz
|
May 23, 2007 Consulate General Leipzig co-organized the 1st International Students’ Conference for participants from the University of Chemnitz and Rockford College, Illinois. Born as an idea when former Wittenberg-based guest professor Dave Jervis (now at Rockford), repeatedly taught intensive courses in Chemnitz, the conference was the culmination of special projects conducted on both sides of the Atlantic during the spring semester. German and American students dealt with Cold War issues in seminars and prepared papers to be read and discussed in Chemnitz (May 23/24). The conference was opened by Leipzig’s Consul General Mark Scheland, who talked about his personal and professional experience as a diplomat in times of the Cold War, while Brigadier General (retired) Eugene Lanzillo covered military aspects of the era, and Fulbright Prof. Paul Rundquist (formerly Congressional Research Service) discussed the role of the U.S. Congress.
