October 1, 2004
Ambassador Daniel R. Coats handed over a $ 10,000 check in Weimar for the restoration of the “Duchess Anna Amalia Library”, the cradle of the Weimar classical period and a universal treasury of books. The library was struck by a devastating fire on September 2, which severely damaged or destroyed the historical collection. In a subsequent interview with staffers from the Ostthüringer Zeitung in Gera, Ambassador Coats took the opportunity to talk about the donation as well as the upcoming presidential elections and various aspects of U.S.-German/European relations.
