The Consulate General in Leipzig provides only emergency consular services for Americans. It does not issue passports or reports of birth abroad. The Embassy in Berlin provides a full range of consular services to Americans (and, when appropriate, to non-Americans) in the states of Thuringia, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt. Among other things, the services offered in Berlin include:
• Issuing passports • Reports of Birth of American Citizens Abroad • Providing assistance, information, and Reports of Death of American Citizens Abroad when a U.S. citizen dies in Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt, or Saxony • Notarial services • How to receive Security Notices by Email • U.S. tax forms • Providing voter information and assisting with voter registration • Assisting with applications for social security numbers (but not with claims for social security benefits) • Providing services to Americans imprisoned in Thuringia and Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt. • Foreign Service Written Exam.
