January 31, 2008. Scholar Christopher Blanchard (Congressional Research Service), lectured at Jena University on recent developments in Afghanistan and evaluated structures and changes in the Middle East, from the Cold War to Al Qaeda. About 350 students and faculty used the forum to discuss American foreign and security policy, NATO engagement, as well as counter-terrorism objectives, human rights, and democracy-building in the region. Blanchard also met leading faculty from the political science department, including director Prof. Michael Dreyer (1988/89: John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow, Harvard University) and addressed a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from the U.S. primaries to CRS activities.
