November 29, 2007 Consul for Political and Economic Affairs Edie Backman and Information Resource Center (IRC) assistant Mechthild Hoelker gave a presentation to the 12th grade at the Goethegymnasium in Kelbra, Saxony-Anhalt. It was Backman's first presentation as part of the program and the Consulate's first "Meet US" event at the school. The 80 students representing the entire 12th grade class were split up into two sessions of approximately 40 students each. After a brief presentation on "The American Dream," Backman answered questions ranging from immigration, racism, the environment, and Michael Moore to obtaining visas for study in the U.S., the U.S. school system, and her experiences in and impressions of Germany.
